Appliances Cleaning
How to Reach Those Hidden Areas

Here are cleaning guides for some common household appliances typically found in a short-term rental (STR):

1. Refrigerator:

  • Step 1: Remove all items from the refrigerator.
  • Step 2: Remove shelves and drawers.
  • Step 3: Use a solution of warm water and dish soap to clean these parts.
  • Step 4: Wipe down the interior of the fridge with the same solution.
  • Step 5: Dry shelves, drawers, and the inside of the fridge before replacing the parts.

2. Microwave:

  • Step 1: Remove the turntable and its support, wash with soapy water.
  • Step 2: Wipe down the interior using a solution of 1 cup water and 1 tablespoon of vinegar (microwaved for a few minutes to loosen grime).
  • Step 3: Wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth.

3. Oven:

  • Step 1: Remove the racks and soak them in a soapy water solution.
  • Step 2: For the interior, make a paste of baking soda and water.
  • Step 3: Apply the paste inside the oven and let it sit overnight.
  • Step 4: Wipe down the inside with a damp cloth.
  • Step 5: For stubborn spots, use a vinegar-water solution.

4. Dishwasher:

  • Step 1: Check and clean the filter (typically located at the bottom of the appliance).
  • Step 2: Place a dishwasher-safe cup of white vinegar on the top rack and run a hot-water cycle to remove grease and odors.
  • Step 3: Sprinkle some baking soda at the bottom and run a short, hot-water cycle for additional cleaning.

5. Washing machine:

  • Step 1: Run a hot cycle with a washing machine cleaner or with white vinegar and baking soda to clean the drum and pipes.
  • Step 2: Wipe down the drum, door, and gasket afterward.
  • Step 3: Leave the door ajar to air out after cleaning.

6. Coffee Maker:

  • Step 1: Fill the reservoir with equal parts white vinegar and water.
  • Step 2: Start a brew cycle halfway, turn it off and let it sit for 30 minutes.
  • Step 3: After 30 minutes, turn on the machine and finish the cycle.
  • Step 4: Run two cycles with clean water to remove the vinegar residue.

Always ensure that you unplug electrical appliances before cleaning them to ensure safety. The cleaning process can vary based on the manufacturer's instructions, so it's always good to refer to the user manual if in doubt.
